Receiving the commission

Last week we received our commission.

Dear ROWD,

I am writing to you as a representative of the Whangarei  Association of Weed Control. We have recently been formed as a branch of the Kauri District Council.  We have been asked by the council to build a database of the weeds in the Kauri area, as well as investigating natural weed control methods which don’t involve using toxic sprays and chemicals.

We have been very busy gathering data from the local farmers and forestry areas. As a small department with only five members, none of whom are research scientists, we are finding the job we have been given quite overwhelming.  At a recent meeting of other weed control companies, your company was mentioned by several delegates, as a committed group of research scientists who have a wide range of knowledge about weeds, and who are also dedicated to finding ways to eradicate weeds without damaging the environment.

After further investigation, our association believes that ROWD may be able to help us with our task. We are wondering if you would be interested in surveying the Kaurihohore School for weed varieties, as well as putting together an extensive weed identification booklet about the weeds you find. This booklet, along with others we having created about different parts of the Kauri area would be available for the local residents.

As if that is not enough to ask you to take on, we have one further request. We have noticed that Periwinkle is a major problem around the Kauri area and we would like to commission you to find successful ways to eliminate this plant without using sprays.

We envisage that the above tasks will take a while and would like to suggest that we receive the results of your work by the end of September. We  look forward to your reply.

Yours Faithfully.
Carson Smales on behalf of WAWC
