We also looked athow th with the weed survey we would get accurate data. The scientists decided to tackle the periwinkle problem first. We needed to find out all about periwinkle so we did a refresher course about this plant and produced responses about what we had found out as well as written reports.
The next activity was to researched different ways to remove periwinkle through searching the internet and reporting back our findings in a company meeting. We discussed the various methods and eliminated some that we thought wouldn't be practical for our department to carry out. We ended up with seven ways to experiment with. At the next school assembly a representative of our company announced that a team of research scientists would be coming into our school to carry out experiments on a patch of periwinkle. They told the children that the area would have danger tape around it, so to please stay out.
Drama activities we did in this part were the trading game, meeting in the company staffroom for afternoon tea and talking with the other scientists about what they had been working on through out the day.
